Arik Levy
“Creation is an uncontrolled muscle,” according to Arik Levy (born 1963).
Artist, technician, photographer, designer, video artist: Levy is a multifaceted professional whose works are exhibited in prestigious galleries and museums around the world. Best known for his sculptures—including the Rock series—installations, limited editions, and artistic projects, Levy nonetheless states: “The world is about people, not objects.”
Born in Israel and later moving to Europe after his first participation in a group sculpture exhibition in Tel Aviv in 1986, Levy currently works in a studio in Paris.
His background is unconventional, having devoted much of his early life in his home country to surfing, alongside his work in an art and graphic design studio. After completing his studies at the Art Center Europe in Switzerland, he graduated in Industrial Design in 1991.
Following a period in Japan, where he refined his ideas by creating products and artworks for exhibitions, Levy returned to Europe, where he also contributed artistically in another field—contemporary dance and opera—by designing various stage sets.
The establishment of his own studio marked a return to his first passion—art and industrial design—while also embracing other aspects of his multifaceted talent.
Now considering himself primarily an artist driven by emotion, Arik Levy continues to make a significant contribution to both our internal and external environments through public sculptures and the creation of complete, multifunctional spaces.
“Life is a system of signs and symbols,” he says, “where nothing is quite as it seems.”
