Ron Arad
Born in Tel Aviv in 1951, and educated at the Jerusalem Academy of Art and later at the Architectural Association in London, Ron Arad co-founded the design and production studio One Off with Caroline Thorman in 1981. He later established the architecture and design studio Ron Arad Associates in 1989. In 2008, Ron Arad Architects was founded alongside Ron Arad Associates.
From 1994 to 1999, he founded Ron Arad Studio, a design and production unit based in Como, Italy. Until 2009, he served as Professor of Design Products at the Royal College of Art in London. Ron Arad was awarded the London Design Week Medal in 2011 for excellence in design, and in 2013 he was appointed Royal Academician of the Royal Academy of Arts.
Ron Arad’s continuous experimentation with materials such as steel, aluminum, and polyamide, along with his radical rethinking of the form and structure of furniture, has placed him at the forefront of contemporary design and architecture.
In addition to his limited-edition studio work, Arad designs for many leading international companies, including Kartell, Vitra, Moroso, Fiam, Driade, Alessi, Cappellini, Cassina, WMF, and Magis.
Ron Arad has also created numerous public art works, including, more recently, the Vortext in Seoul, South Korea, and the Kesher sculpture at Tel Aviv University.
