Born in Cremona in 1960, Ferruccio Laviani graduated in 1978 from the International Professional Institute for Violin Making and Wood Crafts in Cremona. He later attended the Faculty of Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, where he studied under Achille Castiglioni and Marco Zanuso, graduating in 1986.
At the same time, he studied at the private Politecnico di Design in Milan, where he obtained his diploma in 1984. In 1983, he began working at Michele De Lucchi’s studio, becoming a partner in 1986 and ending the collaboration in 1991, when he decided to open his own studio in Milan.
An architect, he works across design, interior design, art direction, and graphic design.
Since 1991, he has been Art Director of Kartell, a role he has also held over the years for companies such as Flos, De Padova, Foscarini, Moroso, Society Limonta, and Emmemobili.
He designs retail spaces and exhibitions, as well as offices and residences, for private clients and brands such as Cassina, Dolce & Gabbana, Dada – Molteni & C., Barovier & Toso, Piper-Heidsieck, Missoni, Citroën, Hansgrohe, Martini & Rossi, Swarovski, Veuve Clicquot, Moët Hennessy, Marazzi Group, La Rinascente, Ermenegildo Zegna, Renault, Samsung, and many others.
His products are included in the collections of leading design companies such as Kartell, Foscarini, Bisazza, Emmemobili, Moroso, Poltrona Frau, FontanaArte, Richard Ginori, Driade, and Panasonic, among others.
